Default WHIM Labor Costs

If you’re running a WHIM, can you tell me how many hours of labor the dealer charged for the installation?

Installed myself, it's not difficult. I think $50 for the software work (enabling WHIM on the bike).

Shouldn’t be more than 1 hour.

The WHIM is garbage. Buy the Sena Freewire instead.

If you can take off and reinstall the front fairing the install is a piece of cake. The dealer hourly labor book says 15 Min for the Flash. Based on the dealers Hourly rate of say $120 (varies from dealer to dealer) that should be $30 for the Flash.

You can save on the WHIM module by buying from Surdyke or Big Sky. For the price of the WHIM you should get free shipping.

As a first step you should go to H-D's on-line store, pull up the WHIM and look at the install Instructions.

If you are putting in the WHIM, you might want to consider getting a duel pack of the 30K (or the new 50K) H-D/Sena headsets at the same time to save even a bit more $$$$.

If you have the dealer install the WHIM, you will be paying full price plus tax and probabaly at least a 2 hours Labor charge.

I went to Pomona Valley Harley Davidson this morning and asked for the cost of installing the WHIM. I was told 327.00. I declined and will install myself. PVHD Service writer is extremely high on everything.

That's not extremely high, that's criminal. That price should include the cost of the WHIM.

No need to remove inner fairing on a RG, Just remove outer fairing 1hr tops, it's the simplest mod you will do.

I was thinking that removal of the outer fairing was basically all I'd need to disassemble, but I see these steps in the install guide:

3. Remove tank. See service manual.
4. Remove backbone main wire harness trough cover.

Do we really need to remove the tank ?

And where is the "main wire harness trough cover" located ?

The tank on these new road glides is easy. 4 bolts, disconnect the quick connect fuel line, and one vent hose and lift it off. The wire harness trough cover sits on top of the frame below the tank and has a few areas where it fastens together but basically just lift it off. Probably has tape in a few spots if a brand new bike and hasn't been opened before. After owning several previous harleys, I absolutely love the RG more than any previous when it comes to working on it.

Here's a link to an install documented by @TriDan starting at post #172
