Default Nitrogen or Air?

What are you running in your tires, nitrogen or compressed air? When I got my new Metzler's the dealer put in nitrogen instead of compressed air. He told me nitrogen was safer and more stable than compressed air. If I ever have to add air on the road I take my ride back to him and he purges the air out and refills with nitrogen for no charge. What are your thoughts?

Unless he's pulling a vacuum on the tire &suckingit completelydown, you're only getting about 1/2 nitrogen anyway- the rest is air.
Considering plain ole air is 78% nitrogen, the best you can hope for is about 85% nitrogen in the tire.
Sounds likehe's jumped on the "nitrogen is better" bandwagon. Hopefully he's not charging for it...

Nitrogen is a waste of money unless...

You race your MC at over 100 MPH and need precise pressures over a given temperature range.
You drive at both temp extremes...(leave the house and its 32* and get to work and its 100*).
You like wasting money (give it to me).

Nitrogen is dry and thus not subject to expansion/contraction of its volume at changing temperatures. Because of that, tire pressures vary less, providing a safer properly-inflated tire that stays at its setpoint. I'd love to have a dewar of it in my garage, but I don't have the space!

Nitorgen molocules are larger than air molocules, therefore itstays at a constant pressure longer thanair. My local Wal-Mart doesnitrogen fills for free when they have time. Just my .02!

Supposedly too, nitrogen eliminates or reduces condensation inside the tire which leads to dry rot, if you have your tires that long.

Race cars/bikes nitrogen, Street 02.

Granted the cost is small, however, as was stated above, unless the dealer is pulling a total vaccum on the tire/tube, you are not running pure nitrogen, which is more stable at elevated/decreased temperatures.

If I didn't use air, I'd use hydrogen. It's lighter than air and would reduce unsprung weight.
