Default 04 RK won't turn over after cam shoe and new cams

So i finished my cams and got everything back together. I put in s&s 509 cams and new cyco tensioner shoes. So I got it all back together syarted it up and it died after about a minute. It sounded good for a but then died. Now it won't turn over and the headlight is very dim. I also changed to adjsutable pushrods, changed the oil and filter, unplugged battery, and have the battery tender on it now. Followed directions very well but something is wrong. I am curious if changing the oil was a bad idea and should've left it alone for a bit. Also the bike will turn over then start to click like a dead battery. Anyway I'm at a loss. Any help please. Thanks as always to all!!!!

My guess is its the battery.... but why would ti die now???

Because everything works until it doesn't anymore. Sometimes a failure is a clean, stand alone failure, sometimes it is coincidental with something else. How long did the battery sit without a tender while the work was being done? Charge it and get it load tested.

Thanks for the reply. It took me about 4 weeks to work on it. i also did it myself to set the oil pump so I hit the starter switch to get the engine to turn while tightening. Didn't think to put the tender on it. Why would it start then die like that though?

Did you check trouble codes? Might be a good place to start.

After I did my Cams the first thing I forgot was to put the spark plug wires back on. Caught that and still wouldn’t start. Then I noticed the ECM plug dangling... Anyway mine was an easy fix and was fine after I plugged everything in. It did die once before it started acting right.

Hopefully it ends up being an easy troubleshoot...

So you say it started and died. Then it won't turn over. Then it will turn over then it won't and clicks?

So what's the battery voltage read? How old is the battery? What's the voltage read when the starter is engaged? Have you double checked your cam and pushrod install as in cam timing and pushrod adjustment? What's your CCP with those cams?

thanks for the reply. Lined the cams up correctly and triple checked them. Even had another person check the timing. I am going to redo the pushrods tomorrow. The harley direction for the SE quick install i think were wrong. I am going to redo those and see where I'm at. What is CCP?

I dont have a code reader but maybe I should get one. Also I did notice next to the battery that there was a plug not connected to anything and another one with the rubber thing in it. Any idea if those are important? I'm going to check my manual thoroughly for these wires tomorrow. Thanks for the reply.

I use a PowerVision to track codes. I think you can get your codes off the odometer.

Don't do anything else until you can answer the questions above ^

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!! One of the pushrods was loose. The harley instructions were really wrong. Went and did them how s&s said to do their quickee push rods. Bike runs great now! Power Commander is next.
