Batwing fairing, lower insert

Batwing fairing, lower insert
I brought home a new to me 2000, Ultra last Friday. As I was going through it this weekend, I noticed the lower right side of the fairing was not together completely, it had about a 1/2" gap. The lower bolt wouldn't tighten or loosen so I took the outer fairing off. The insert had been pulled out of the fairing at the lower right attachment point. Is there a trick to getting the insert back into the fairing?

Should press right back in, unless the hole is messed up, then I would suggest an epoxy in the hole or better just on the insert and then don't over tighten it when it sets, don't take much for the clam shells to be held together to mend it, but would insert the screw in the brass first with some sort of release agent first, maybe anti-seize.

Or screw in of these threaded brass inserts. You can find them in smaller quantities at a cheaper price if you look around the Web.

Well, if you brought it to the dealer, they would put in one of those threaded inserts
( HD part # 16585-96)
If you purchase aftermarket, they have different outer threads for different materials.
( I believe the HD part is 16 threads per inch )
Just make sure you install it correctly. There are numerous posts on this.
The slot in the end is NOT for a screwdriver, the slot goes in first (helps hold it in place)
Naturally there is a special tool to install, I just use a bolt with a couple of nuts locked together as a tool.
Good luck.
