Default New to Harley, getting 2020 RGL -- What should I know?

I am sure this thread can get big

I have been lurking for a long time, and finally registered to participate in this community.
I am looking for any wisdom that can be imparted about Harley touring bikes, mechanical, riding, anything you all can think of.

A bit about me. 46, got my first bike when I was 8, NEVER been with out a bike, had/have Hondas, Kawi, Yammies,(even a Chaparral) cruisers, sport bikes, goldwing, dirtbikes etc. thought I would change it up and try making memories on a new bike.

Look forward to getting to know you all!

Jason

Curious as to why you spent your entire life on metrics and now want this specific HD, the Road Glide?

Plant butt in seat, push start, pull in clutch, clunk down for first gear, ease out clutch while twisting throttle. Make sure someone takes a pic of permanent smiles plastered across your face.
Return bike to garage, (an hour or so later) put in neutral, turn bike off, flip out kickstand, oops sorry, jiffy stand, remove butt from seat, and frown until the next time you plant butt back in seat.

Thats all there is too it.

My guess is he went to a RG because its set up quite similar to the goldwing he had.

I love my 2020 RG Special. I, too, have ridden many metric bikes. Sportbikes were my thing for years as a road racer (on track). I think you'll like the fixed fairing on the RG. It is a very capable bike in all departments.

I started at 8yrs old, 1st bike was a 1980 Yamaha GT 80, used, cheap, ran. My dad bought a 1982 Yamaha 750 Maxum (which he passed on to me when I graduated HS). but here is where the metric kick really happened. I went to Aces and 8's (now Powerder Keg) in Mason ohio in 2002, Had cash in hand to buy a Blue and Silver Fatboy they had sitting on the floor. Wife and I were there for (no kidding) 45 mins and NOBODY even said "Hi" to us. Nothing. So took my money up the road and bought a 2002 Honda VTX 1800. I still have it. FYI had similar experiences at other HD shops too, although I was at those shops with friends, not for me.

That experience put me off HD for 18 years. I wanted a new touring bike so I can take my 3 kids on trips with me (not at the same time ). So I walked in to Buckeye HD in Dayton (just so I could say, "Yeah I looked at HD") and the experience was night and day different. They talked to me, listened, The sales guy, Chris, even remembered my 9yr olds name over a week later. They worked out a great deal (everyone says that, but no joke, crazy deal). So here I am LOL.

@handirifle You are correct. the RGL is similar to the GW, and I did love the ride of the GW, but the wind beat the crap out of me and the wife and highway speed. No matter what I bought to correct the wind flow, didn't get that wit the RGL, even with stock screen.
