Default Looking at buying a 2011 Electra Glide Ultra Limited with 40K miles

When I go test ride it is there anything specific I should look for?

Pros and Cons of this year and model?

Also, what are the service intervals for this bike?

Would there have been a major service due on or before 36K miles?

Thanks

Mark

If it were me I'd be listening for top end clatter, checking tires for age and tread and looking for a general feel of right and tight. Service records would be a bonus. I rode a 2012 Limited for 80,000 miles, these are solid motorcycles IMO. Oh and I wouldn't be keen on a whole lot of owner "upgrades" but that's just me.

I have a 2012 ultra 103 and it has been pretty much trouble free. I do all my own maintenance, I just installed new front rotors they were warped. I have to replace the shift lever shaft as it is wearing out. Both of those items are easy fixes.

I just traded in my 2011 SG with 40k on it for a new SG. It should have had the regular maintenance done every 5k, check for records. For 2011 they had the rear brake switch recall and some of them (mine included) did not have the Transmission cover bolts ( on the side where the clutch cable goes in) tightened enough from the factory so it could leak. Besides that, just go over it with a fine tooth comb and see what shape it is in.

I have an 11 Limited pulling a sidecar. All I have replaced was the compensator and front brake rotors. Besides general maintenance it is a great bike

I am heading out in a few minutes to check on a 2012 Ultra, with under 24k on it. Have gotten lots of good info from you guys. Have been watching the price steadily drop on this bike, so hopefully nothing is wrong with it. If it seems to good to be true.......

Will post the results this afternoon.

The 2011 Ultra Limited I'm interested in has 40K miles and appears to have been well taken care of. Current Owner is asking $9K or make offer

I'm also interested in a 2014 with 16K miles the current owner is asking $13,500. Is this bike worth $3500 more? I know they made some upgrades to the 2014 model but still the same 103 motor.

Both bikes are located in Southern California.

Thanks

I bought my ‘13 with 38K and have had not a single reliability issue. Still planning plenty of trips on it without hesitation. Basic maintenance is all it takes for these things to go 100K+

I'd make an offer on the 2014 at $10k. bike market is tough right now, and many sellers are motivated to move their bikes. 2014 will include the rushmore changes - not necessarily a huge deal breaker. However, for me personally, I'd pay a little more for the Rushmore bike with lower miles. Just my $.02. Let us know what you do.
