Default 2011. Is the primary vented?

Should the primary be vented on my 2011 FLHX?

Recently had my primary off to change the belt and replaced the inner seal while I was in there. Now it's leaking and I don't think I screwed the seal on install but I do know it's possible.

So, when I drained the primary it glugged a lot and I don't remember it doing that before. If there's supposed to be a vent that I blocked somehow, maybe the seal is fine and pressure is just forcing it out.

The primary vent is thru the clutch pushrod passageway. There, it shares the transmission vent tube you see on front side of transmission top cover were it comes out and turns down near where shift lever is.

No venting in your primary , if anything it could vent through the pushrod through your tranny . which has a vent . I would say your're good .

Ok, I thought it was supposed to vent through the pushrod tube. Can't see how anything would block that off.

The main shaft seal I used is a James gasket piece, looked quite nice. Maybe it's just NFG? Sigh... The projects never end.

Found the problem. I put the new main shaft seal in backwards. Egg, all over my face.

Rubber side in first, boys.

Too cool. People do that quite often on the front seal to the engine behind stator. In fact, I have seen instructions both ways. Think Harley's seal has a double lip.

At least you found it - nice! Sucks you needed to do it over to get back in there.

Double lip seal is bi-directional can go in either way, the old metal single lip ones you had to watch and how those went in depended on running a wet or dry ( belt ) primary.
