i do the recommended checks and adjustments every 5k as specified. but, for fluid changes, i do the engine every 5k, primary every 5k (it is filthy enough at 5k, can't imagine it at 10k), and the tranny every 20k.

my 'recipe':
redline 20w-60 for the engine, formula + for primary and tranny. might change that after i am 100% convinced that i don't/won't have any tranny transfer to the primary, but for now, that's what i'm going with.

I have the service manual for my bike and go through the checklist. I do most things myself, as I feel comfortable. Stuff I don't feel comfortable doing, or don't want to do, I take it to either the dealer or an independent mechanic. I am much more meticulous about my bike than I am my cars, because there is a lot less margin for error on the bike. As far as oil and fluid changes, I follow the recommendations - 5k for engine oil, 10k for primary, 20k for transmission. It certainly doesn't hurt anything to do it more frequently, but I don't see the need.

I wonder if what the OP is really asking is should he spend $400 every 5000 miles and to that I say no.........change your own fluids and do other items within your capability at specified intervals and if there are items you aren't comfortable with I could see taking it in to the dealer every 10,000 miles and getting those covered

My dealer changes all 3 holes every 5K.
They claim to do all the checks in the manual and then some. I know there are plenty of doubters and horror stories, but my dealer has treated me absolutely phenomenal. I've got zero reasons they aren't.
I have a little over a year left on my MoCo warranty, once that's up...I'll probably do the fluids myself and relax the Trans and primary to every 10K.

As said...2 wheels vs 4. If changing fluids a little more often is unnecessary, which I could argue it is...so be it.
I didn't buy a nearly 30K bike to treat it and maintain it like a $500 dirt bike...

I do mine ever 2500 miles.

BUT, I have a lifetime maintenance program. It paid for itself after the 20k mile maker.

yup that’s what I was asking. Thanks everyone for ur feedback. Rephrasing my question : I’ll be changing engine, primary and transmission oil every 5,000 miles no doubt about that but is it necessary to do other things in the service that dealer suggest that I do every 5,000 miles or 10, 000 miles is ok.

reading few responses looks like I better do it.

There is little benefit in servicing more frequently than the specified intervals, which are already conservative in any event. I just don't get it! However there is a lot to be said for getting the genuine FSM and reading it thoroughly, to educate oneself on what servicing actually involves. Then an owner can make an informed decision on what to do himself, or get done by a mechanic. I've been practicing that for over half a century....

Here's the maintenance checklist for you.
