The good habits and techniques practiced by riders to survive the mean streets carry over to the car. I know this is true in my case. Bike riders know how to use the road (alternating, merging, left lane for passing only, etc...) and practice defensive riding regularly. We handle traffic better and tend to be part of the solution to traffic more than being part of the problem. One of the problems with traffic these days is the "me first" attitude of too many drivers. They will gridlock an intersection with no regard for other drivers while thinking they are making better time as a result.
