Default new tour pack on a 09 RG

Bike is a 09 RG. Currently has a pre Rushmore razor pack on it with the quick release. A quick measurement is the razor pack to mount is less than 8in apart.
I bought a Rushmore style chopped TP. Quick measurement is the mounting holes are 8 1/2in apart.
If anybody has put a new style TP on a pre Rushmore I have some questions:
Did you end up getting a Rushmore mount or did you use the old style mount?
If you used the old style mount, did you re drill the mount or the TP?

I used a Rushmore mount but don’t see why you couldn’t just drill new holes

I have the Rushmore chopped TP on my '13 King. I also bought the Rushmore TP rack. I have a riding buddy who has a Rushmore King TP for his '12 SG and uses a hand-me-down pre-Rushmore TP rack. He re-drilled and plugged the original holes. I think he got those plugs at a DYI store.

Ken, does your buddies TP sit different on the rack then yours, higher, lower?

As for the Rushmore mount, did you go with a harley mount or aftermarket? There are some for sale that look exactly like the OEM mount. Don't know if the metal is as thick, but there is a big price difference. My razor pack has the cheap mount and there has been zero issues with it

Good question. We never compared the height of the racks as it sits in the bikes. Maybe someone can chime in on that. My buddy went to a dealer to measure the King TP in relation to the rear fender seat bolt to gage the forward distance as the backrest is thicker than the Chopped TP backrest.

The only caveat I've read is if you use a pre-Rushmore TP with the Rushmore bags, you need to raise the TP a bit for the bag lids to clear. Other than that if your bags clear your Razor TP, then you should be good.

I went with the H-D rack. I figured if there were issues, I could exchange it easily. My dealer is pretty good on that. I've read hit-n-miss revues with some of the aftermarket racks, but if you haven't had any issues then you might want to keep that rack for the new TP.

Thanks Ken. What I was getting at is, does the tour pack on the older rack look OK and feel sturdy? Or does it look like its set up wrong

Sorry, the TP looks and feels very sturdy on the rack. It's on the Rushmore rack. No movement at all. My buddy's TP also looks and feels very sturdy. It also looks good in his rack. His wife likes it very much and says the TP feels real good as it is angle a bit when sitting.

Great looking bike Ken! Thanks for the info. Ordered the Rushmore mount and a base plate. Should have everything next week. Thanks again
