Talking 18x3.5 & 21x3.5 what tires?!

Just looking to confirm tire sizes before I buy - I have an 08’ Street Glide which I have purchased new 21x3.5 inch (front) and 18x3.5 inch (rear) wheels for..

Wondering what tire size would be best that wouldn’t require modifications (shaving off bolts, etc..).

I was thinking a 130/60-21 (front) and 150/70-18 (rear). Specifically I’ve been researching the AVON Cobra Chromes who have those sizes. I’ve never dealt with anything other than stock tires/wheels so I’m not sure exactly what would fit properly on these wheels.. I’ve found varying replies online; anyone with a SOLID answer before I start buying tires?

Thanks!

Thumbs up

Sound like the right sizes to me! I'm a great fan of Avon tyres, having used them on my Harleys since the '70s. I currently have them on all three V-twins, although the Chromes have come out since I fitted my most recent tyres.

I have a Metzler on the front with my 21". Was going to use an Avon but Bad Dad said I might have issues with that tire and their fender. Running a MCII on the rear.

And you’re running 18x3.5’’ rear and 21x3.5’’ front? Nice bike, I like the extended bags.. haven’t gotten there yet!!

18x3.5" in the rear yes. Front is 21x3.25" but that's so minimal you won't know the difference. I did a lot of research when I switched. I would have went with the Avon but again it didn't fit with the fender. The Metzler has worked great so far for me. Bike rides better than stock if you ask me.

Ok great - as long as my sizes are good (130/60B21 & 150/70VB18) for those wheel sizes I’ll be ordering tires this month.. We still have 2 feet of snow on the ground so I got time... haha

Thanks for the reply Sanman

That's interesting! I have a 160/70R17 in my 1990 Glide, which is wider at 167mm and almost the same diameter as the 18" above. I wonder what about the Bad Dad fender is different?!

They said the "crown" of the Avon is higher.
They now have a drop down depending on if you are using a Metzler, Dunlop, Avon, or Shinko tire

120/70/21 I'm thinking this is my set up. I went to the garage but can't read the side wall due to winter storage. I'll check my invoices and report back.
