One thing you'll notice if you wrap your baffles , both my hard bags were covered with fiberglass material after i rode it. I used the stuff they use in off road bikes, and it seemed it blew out way too fast.

I "repack" my mufflers every couple of years ... The packing is usually "burnt out" by then and there is a definite difference in the tonal quality ... It's quite simple to do and I use fiberglass matting that I've gotten from Rush ... A suggestion would be to wrap the packing with a couple of pieces of masking tape ... Many will use safety wire but that can create hot spots that can/will cause the chrome on the mufflers to discolor .

I haven’t seen anything like that yet. Been in some heavy throttle on/off on mountain twistys and holding up nice! About 500 miles on them now.

I used chicken wire to wrap the baffle insulation. Holds it in place when installing. Holding up well and real happy with the sound!

UL, can’t say yet how this wrap material will hold up but it does have a 2300F heat rating. No sign yet of hot spot marks from the light wire wrap.

Here it is , all done . The tone was definitely deeper , and I found that it was just a bit quieter than I thought it would be . I'm quite happy with the results . As I figured , there were no performance results that I could see / feel . I ended up with a nice deep rumble at idle and it still barks quite nicely when I give it throttle , nice tone at cruising speed .

This packing is quite tough , I've used it before on other bikes and it seems to last . I used to change it every couple years too , and it always looked pretty good . I use packing tape to hold it in place , then wrap wire around it to hold it after the tape gets burned off . The wire is tight enough that it doesn't even touch the walls of the muffler , so no chance of it discoloring the muffler .

I also noticed , that the slight popping I had was gone . I figure it must have been gasses getting trapped inside the space between the baffle and the muffler .

I know that D&D sells their fat cat with baffles wrapped and unwrapped. I figure they know what they’re doing. Excellent job of repacking! Looks great!
