This is probably a subject people are tired of reading or hearing about but I searched and cant find any info broken down barney style enough for my dumbass. I just bought a 19 RK and want to put different bars on it. What is the highest I can go without having to buy $450 worth of extensions and extra stuff and then another $400 to have it done. I can do alot of stuff myself but would rather not dig in to deep myself on a brand new bike. Thanks from the forum new guy.

I put 14" Chubbyz on my '19 Road King. I'm 5'11" and they are perfect, and very much worth the price of extensions. My advice is to go for what you want and you will only pay once. Otherwise, 12" bars do not require cable extensions.

Take some time and figure out for sure what size bars you want. If you think you’re trying to David’s between two heights, go with the taller ones. Take it from a guy who has experience with this, just spend the money necessary to get the bars you want. You will spend less and be happier in the long run.

This same advice goes for seats and shocks. Spend the money to buy quality the first time and be done with it. It will cost you less and you will be happy.

Im a guy who has been down the “I can get by with this road” only to end up spending more to upgrade again to get the comfort I was really looking for.

Seats, shocks, and handlebars. That’s where the comfort is and that’s where your money should go first if you really want to enjoy longer rides. That’s my two bit advice. Take it or leave it. I read this same kind of thing and didn’t listen, I was wrong.

I have a 17 Road King and originally put Wild One Cubby 10” on it. No cable increases but definitely need the wire extensions. They are like $20 from Harley, plug and play no biggie. You may be able to do 12” with out replacing the cables but it will be tight depending on bar orientation. I just got done putting Paughco 18” on her and the cables from Magnum were like $70 a piece. The wire extensions were still plenty long enough. Pretty easy but time consuming job. If your even slightly mechanically inclined you can handle it no problem.

Whatever you chose to fit, I suggest you check-out the options available for your bike on the H-D website, where you can find instructions, which will help whatever you actually choose.

You just dropped a **** ton of money on a bike and want to cheap out on comfort?

Buy the most comfortable bars and what ever is required. You'll be much happier, and you wont have to look at those hideous stock garden hoses.
