Moving past the sportbike bashing....using a leg is also a "recognized" (meant found on the internet somewhere so at least a few people know of it) way to signal...since really it isn't ever safe to take your hands off the bars now, is it?

Personally, if I passed someone and was about to move in front of them I would use the turn signals. And my legs are for pointing out dead things and hazards in the road...but that's just me

The legs are used to point out road hazards like potholes/sand/gravel/dead animal on one side of a lane. If the animal is on the right side of a lane, the right leg is used to point at the ground on that side. It has NOTHING to do with what type of bike or rider it is. You just happened to be riding past them when there was something on their side of the road.

Wow, some of the responses here just make you realize why so many other bike riders have this opinion that HD riders are jerks. [:@]

As I see it you saw what their intentions were which made forsafer riding.
If we were all that silly we would all be that much aware of whats going on.
Understand.

I believe that on crotch rockets, the way you are leaned over the tank, allot ofyour weight is on your arms so it would be easier to kick out a leg than sit up to take the weight off and then use your arm to signal??

The left leg is just becoming an easier way to remember that it is a road hazard.
Legs = ground
Pointing WITH legs = Hazard on the ground

In our area we use turn signals or arm signals to indicate turns and lane changes.
We use left hand/ arm to point to obstacle in road on left sign.
But were instructed to use right leg for same on right side.
so who's right?

Alot of them here in Georgia signal with their legs. No big dealbecause alot of Harley riders are jerkoffs that don't signal or wave anyway.
i agreewhen i was in a position where i needed to hold on to my bike and switch lanes a leg signal was faster and safer at times. itsa squidly thing. we also did it to warn other riders of wood,dead animals etc...
when i rodemyother bikes i waved no matter what yourode. let me tell you most HD guys didnt wave back.hell i wavetopeople on the other side ofthe fwy & more street riders wave back than HD riders.its not because they didnt see me.
