Police Road King - Cruise Control

Police Road King - Cruise Control
Hi guys. I just purchased a new, to me 2011, Road King Police Edition that someone dumped a ton of money in to for aesthetics. Now i am working on some practical changes like docking hardware, radio and the best part.... Cruise Control
Now before i am trolled for not searching, i have, i read that i can buy the part number 77196-08 and then have the dealer flash my computer. Here is my issue.
I went to the dealer and talked to the techs, they told me that it is not that simple and it is like an $800 project. Im sure if i just handed over the bike and asked them to do it they are right because the local HD Stealership is full of buttheads.
Also they tell me that if I buy that hand control and it does jot work out there are no refunds. So here is my question..
When i open up the headlight and trace the right controls to the plug, what wires am i looking for? Also i know i need to add a momentart switch to "enable cruise" where do you recommend that i put this switch. I dont have a knockout like the road glide or street glide to add those HD buttons.
My road king police does not have the siren and cop light toggles. Just looks like any harly bar controls from 2011.
Thabk you for your help.

There are several "interrupts" that will disengage the factory cruise. Front brake, rear brake, clutch, roll off and some others that I can't recall - it can be a massive effort to put an OEM cruise on a bike that wasn't equipped with CC. Do you know if your RK harness is configured for cruise? You might have better luck with an after market installed by a competent shop. Around here the dealers won't touch one. Take a look at a FSM and you'll get a better idea of how it all works together.

Cruise control police road king
Go to retired police bikes on Facebook.
If it’s a police service bike you can use the red buttons on the left handle bar to set and resume cruise.
Hopefully those files were moved from
retiredpolicebikes.com
The instructions on that site seemed pretty straight forward.
i just checked. The link came right back here.
search for installing cruise control on police road king. Very inexpensive.

And you really want the FSM to see the wiring diagrams for both police bikes and cruise control equipped bikes so you can understand the differences and understand the various articles describing how to convert. Those articles/drawings will almost invariably contain mistakes or missing details that the FSM will reveal.

On my 2013 RK Police the red left side siren buttons was used as the cruise ON and Set button. Siren on off turns on the cruise. The other siren button sets the speed. No RESUME. This was set up prior to my purchase of the bike but from what I was told, and can see, it was just a a simple matter of tapping into the cruise control electronics already installed on the bike. Looks like only three wires involved.
