Default 2008 Heat

Just picked up a low mileage 2008 Electra Glide and need some advice. The heat from the exhaust is excessive to put it mildly.

1. Suggestions to help combat this.

2. Will any of the later style factory exhaust bolt, where the back pipe does not split and the crossover is under the frame? Seems like this might help.

I plan to install a set of heat deflectors to start.

Thanks in advance.

If they are factory pipes there is a catalytic converter either in the headpipe or in the mufflers. Get rid of that and heat will decrease alot. You may need a tuner depending how far you go if you replace parts.

A nice tasteful touch is a Captain Itch Crotch Cooler. I had an 08 touring bike that was very hot like you describe. I bought it used and pretty sure it never had a tune that should have helped but I traded the bike.

I thought 2010 was the first year for a catalytic converter? I might be wrong lol it happens alot. If it's the stock exhaust you will benefit from a free flowing setup with a good tune ...that will help quite a bit. The deflectors...i took mine off and didn't feel any difference. I had those black plastic bolt on one's. There's a sponsor on here , captain itch that sells a deflector that gets good reviews.

Richen up the fuel mixture. No cats on 08 like the newer ones.

Not sure where in Texas you are in but I don't think there is a part of the state that is not F'n hot right now. I'm in Houston. There's a lot of your heat issue right there.

If it still has a stock exhaust, find an after market exhaust system you like and get a good tune on it. A good two into one will move it all to the right. I have true duals on my 08 and am happy with them even if they aren't the best for performance. Exhaust and tune will cool it off noticeably.

Thanks for the replies. I have a 2014 LTD (completely stock) and don't get near the heat from it. My thought was if I could get everything on one side it might help. Never understood splitting the exhaust on the rear cylinder.

Had the same issue with my '08 RK.My wife was complaining the pipes were roasting her.Installed a set of S&S powertune duals and a Powercommander 5. The pipes go under the bike like the later bikes, made a big difference.
