2019 bad motor

Have you been breaking it in according to the book or driving it like you stole it from day one? Oil consumption during break in is not unusual and should stabilize soon. The other possibilities listed above are serious possibilities also. Many of us intentionally run a half quart low- half way between add and full on the dip stick. Was your level a half quart below add or right at the add mark? Especially during break in and at least for the first 5000 to 10,000 miles YOU should check your oil level frequently. If the engine USES too much oil, that is a warranty problem. If YOU destroy the engine from not checking the oil level, I suspect YOU pay.

I'd stop worrying about it and getting amped up.
While it's hard to be patient, especially with a lot of keyboard warriors wanting you to show up with hot oil, feathers, tar and a pitchfork... Give the dealer a chance.
Everyone has a dealer nightmare story.
I have one too. A really bad one that involved pictures, a chargeback on my credit card, etc.
But for everyone of those you read about, there are dozens of good dealers and service departments you DON'T read about.
Don't let it ruin your weekend...relax and let things play out.
Keep your records together and when dealing with your dealer, be nice.

You have accidentally done exactly the right thing. Harley now has a service ticket showing your concern about ping, knock, and low oil. It is now up to you to track any further problems in these areas and return for further correction, if there is any needed. My recommendation, check your oil level at the first opportunity to see the level to which they serviced it AND to immediately see any change with further frequent checks. Either the problems returns OR you have no problem. Either way you are covered for at least another year by warranty. Oil consumption is unique, there isn't a leak that can be identified and fixed, the RATE OF CONSUMPTION must be verified over the miles and determined to be within normal tolerances or not. Air cooled engines have somewhat "looser" fitting parts because the temperature range they experience is wider than liquid cooled engines, as there is no thermostat to control temperature. They are prone to consume a bit more oil than a liquid cooled engine. There is a chance that this half quart of oil consumesd will be all there is and from here on oil consumption will be negligible, but there is also a chance this is the first of a worsening trend. At this time it is early in the game to make a final decision on whether the engine is now "seated in" or if oil consumption will worsen. Only additional miles will tell the story, and adding miles is why you bought the bike. Enjoy it for now and see what happens.

I believe that they would also have to prove that not doing something on the service list had a direct effect on the warranty problem (e.g. didn't check the tire pressure and the engine used oil excessively, especially when shown that numerous others serviced at the dealer have oiling problems). Get a lawyer if you want service from HD... they don't even honor their published warranties on parts and merchandise that don't have service requirements and that's a fact. They are in economic survival mode. Also know that a dealer has no obligation to support you when it comes to a decision made by the HD company. A dealer IS NOT part of Harley Davidson Corp.
Anyone that has a problem with a dealer should state their name when they complain. A dealer that wants to provide service or a lawyer are you only hope when it comes to dealing with HD USA.

Ya I am not rush to buy another new bike. Probably get used to avoid warranty hassle.
Had bike 3 weeks, we are busy getting 2008s ready.
The next year, we are busy getting rentals ready for 105th. GF got nervous when I screamed out you **** sucker when that interior decorator Willie came on stage.

Well, have an update. After 10 days (8-12-19) at Shenandoah HD, Staunton, VA, the MoCo has approved a motor tear down to find the problem (engine oil disappearing, not leaking or burning). MoCo say they have "no idea" what the problem is. Only thing is, the service manager said keep in mind, it might take awhile. They only have two techs in the shop. Slow Mo from the MoCo for warranty repair.
It's a shame, a 2 month old Road King sitting in the shop !
