Default Can I change cams myself?

Just wondering how hard of a job is it to change cams in a stock 88? I have basic mechanical knowledge and do most of the work on my bike. What is involved and what would I be spending? I have stage 1 with slip ons, K and N and powercomander.

It's all about tools. If you have to buy or rent, it's cheaper to just pay a wrench a few bucks to do it.

I don't see how.........I rented the tools for around 60 bucks from this guy:

Then, I used Harley Hogs site as a guide:

BTW, I did not need or use a press. I used the oven/freeze method. You can see it here:

No special tools are really needed to get the job done, but a press helps out a lot.

I did a gear drive change in my bike in 4 hours, went from the 26G's to the HQ-0034G's.

Going from the stock cams to the gear drive cams is a bit more involved since you have to replace the inner cam bearings......but it is still very easy to do if you are mechanical and have the manual.

Yep, other than the factory exhaust if you still have it on your bike (huge P.I.T.A.), it's easy. Easier than doing a cam change in a V-8. I'm new to bike motors, but car engines I have done for almost 30 years. Bike is pretty much the same only smaller. But I'll say I wouldn't have wanted to do it with out the specialty tools needed going from chain tensioners to gear drive cams. I took my cam plate backto work on second shift when all the Suits and ties were gone and used the Hydraulic press in the Maint shop to press out the old stuff and press in the new. I had bought the inner and outer bearing remover/installer tool, plus the cam bearing tool. Yeah it cost me some bucks but I don't trusttoo many peopleworking on my stuff.
