Remember 20 years ago when the cool thing was the t-shirts that said 'If you can read this, the bitch fell off'?.....Well, I guess the new poser 'gotta have' accessory is the 'face mask'. I see at LEAST 1 guy in every pack of bikes now wearing a skull face mask bandana thing. For the record, its the middle of summer here and theres NO dust here (its super humid). Even the flying bugs have been mild this season. So what purpose do these things serve other than trying to look like a Sons of Anarchy casting extra?

Some guys here in the west coast wear them to keep the sun off there face .

 

I think the skulls look a little silly..... but....

I always wear a half helmet. I also wear a plain, black balaclava when it's cold outside....

I have a friend who also wears a half helmet. He has fair skin and wears a skull mask, especially when it's sunny. It keeps him from getting sunburn & windburn on long freeway rides.......

So the "skulls" notwithstanding, the face mask can have a purpose....

 

We had this thread a couple months back, pretty even split in the crowd in here between they are useful ( pick one of a dozen plus reasons ) verses hey dig me I'm a badass. Time and a use for everything just some guys timing is questionable

I ride nearly every day since my bike is my means of transportation. It's summer here in the desert. Temps are in triple digits (114 degrees here today). I've got the scars on my face from where the skin cancer has gotten me. In an attempt to decrease these facial cancers, I now wear a fabric tube style bandana (https://schampa.com/collections/tubes) that covers my face during the daytime. I choose to wear a plain dark grey one. I don't need a face cover to be bad ***.

1/2 helmet = sunblock.............. done.

 

They're SPF 50 for most of the ones I've seen and even the cheap ones are SPF 30

 

Worn in CT. cold weather to keep from getting wind burn and helps with breathing.

 

Face scarves and baclavas have a purpose and I use them for protection if the conditions warrant it. My FXRG jacket came with one. I think the “scary” looking ones are probably better suited for Halloween but hey, if wearing something “scary” makes someone feel better about themselves, fine with me. Or maybe, they’re antifa folks on their way to protest something?
