Default Can I use K&N 170C instead of 171C on Road King

Somehow I ordered the wrong oil filter for my RKC, got a 170C instead of 171C, the 170C does not have the anti-drain back valve preventing oil from draining back into the case. Does it matter?

I'm not real sure but it might. You're only out a few bucks so why not just re-order the correct filter and set that one up on a shelf as a decoration?

Without the anti drain back the lifters will rattle every time you start the bike up until the filter refills and the oil pressure builds. Don't use it.

Being my filter is lower than the oil tank but higher than the engine, mine would sump.

It's not going to cause the lifters to tick. But I'd never ever run a filter without an adbv unless it was perfectly vertical. It will cause the engine to starve for oil a couple seconds longer on each startup while the filter refills.

Ok makes sense, but why then is the 170C (without the anti-drain back valve) the correct filter for sportsters and some other models? Wouldn't the concern be the same regardless?
