RE: If HD quit making touring bikes....
A used Electra Glide. If we're asuming for the sake of arguement that there are no more used ones either, I might be inclined to try a Victory. Of course I do have a weakness for Ducati's and the ST3 is a sweet one. Although I dont really have an interest in them right now, maybe one day I'd try a BMW too. Let's just hope it doesn't come to this.

RE: If HD quit making touring bikes....
Doesn't matter to me if HD quit making touring bikes or not.
S&S, Baker, and J&P have covered my needs on my 16 yr old 'GLide already.
am/fm/cd with mp3 already installed, quick detatch tour pac gets fabbed in the winter... etc.
There are more than enough old glides and aftermarket parts to keep it running for a damn long time.
Now, if HD had never made a touring bike, I would have taken whatever HD bike I could get and built it to tour.
I've owned 15 bikes so far, many makes and models, but all my street-only bikes have always been some kind of HD, I wouldn't even think about building a jap or euro bike for road only duty. There is nothing wrong with them, and I can appreciate their design and performance, they're just not for me.

RE: If HD quit making touring bikes....
I would be at the local Triumph dealer buying a Rocket III. My previous bike was a Thunderbird Sport.
I had 36,000 miles on that bike and, if anything, it ran better then than the day I bought it. It was a
VERY hard decision to part with that bike, but I was after a bagger, and the Road Glide fits my current
riding needs. Another Triumph still crosses my mind every now and then though...

My last touring bike was a '93 K1100LT. It's still in my garage, but deceased (got totalled by a hit from a roll-off truck). The new BMW's are simply too computerized and sophisticated for my taste, so if there wasn't a Road Glide I could buy new, I'd probably look for another used 1100LT. Great bike.
