Passing lamps cut out
Hi guys,
I have a passing lamp that will cut out whenever it feels like it but If I slap it it will come back on. I have changed the bulb with the other side but the problem is still with the lamp (and not the bulb) I am pretty sure it acts like a ground but if it was a ground wouldnt both of them cut out ? Could not find any pinched or bad looking wires on the side effected.
Please Advise ,

could not find any issues with the wiring and said the hell with it and replaced the lights with 2 4" spot lights I got from Rual King that are 13V 100 watts. Did not last long until until I blew the fuse, witch also took out the main headlight. ordered 2 35 watt amber lights from the dealer ( aftermarket book ) hope to have better luck with them .

300W at 13V should draw ~7.7 amps. I believe your aux light fuse is a 15A fuse. That fuse should not have blown unless you have a bad connection or a wire insulation damaged. A loose connection will draw heat and can damage the connector and wiring which makes more heat and draws more current until the fuse blew. The system is parallel from at the lamp bar so if one is intermittent, then the problem is going to be there. Replacing the lamps with higher current units only aggravated an already existing problem and replacing the lamps again will not fix it. You are going to have to find and repair the damage.
What year? There are different passing lamp configurations. From what I can tell, up until 2005 the auxiliary lamps were sealed beam units that were replaced with the 2006 and later models with a light assembly with a replaceable bulb. On my Ultra, these had also developed a smoky film on the inside side of the lens like the headlights so I replaced all three with LEDs assemblies.

The bike is a 2011 FLHTK, I also had the lense smoke up on all 3 but decided to go with a sealed beam on the passing lamps instead of LED. I really thought the problem had to be with the bulb or plug because when I probed the wire before the plug I would get current. I could not find another plug to wire in so I just went with the sealed beams that were on the shelf at rual king and changed the plug to ring terminals thinking this would solve my problem, they had other lights there that were 12.8V and 35W each but for some reason I just grabbed the 100 watt ones.
How many watts can I put on that circuit with a 15A fuse ? the high beam on the main headlight is 60 watts.
