Supposedly this isn't true. All you need is the dealer to do the flash of the gts system for the whim and you can then use the regular non branded sena headsets without the module. Law-abiding biker did a video on it on youtube.

If you want to connect to the boom system on your bike with your headset, there are only two options: install the WHIM, but if you do that you MUST use the Harley branded wireless headset or you will not get full stereo sound. The other alternative is to use the Sena Free Wire. The problem for you and your SGS is to use the Free Wire you must install the 8 pin din connector, not a big deal, but you need to plug the Free Wire into it. The advantage of the Free Wire is it's compatible with most Sena Headsets and you get full functionality with your Boombox. I'm using the Free Wire and the Sena 20S Headset and it works perfectly. By going the Free Wire route, you'll have more flexibility in choosing a headset that will work best with your half helmet setup.

Yes, thank you. I'm looking into the Freewire setup also. But I can't filter through everything I've read about it to determine if I can communicate with another rider via bluetooth if they don't also have a Freewire setup. For example: If I have the Freewire installed and connected to my GTS system with my headset connected via bluetooth, can I communicate with my wife on her bike if she has a bluetooth headset and the 2 headsets are paired with each other?

I don't want to hear music through the headset, I want it for communication only, phone, voice to text, inter-bike communication.

But again, if microphone wind noise is a problem with a half helmet at 70+ MPH, I'll just abandon this entirely.

If it works for you, what are you using?

I'm planning a couple of long trips and if I decide to do this, I'd rather do it right the first time.

2019 SGS, no WHIM and no DIN plug at this time.
On the BoomAudio on my '14 Ultra, the tweaks I have to make to compensate for my wife's 3/4 are either lift her mic to nose level [which obviously compromises VOX pickup] or decrease VOX on the intercom settings to -1. This is the VOX level for highway travel. As soon as we get off the highway, I can re-adjust VOX to +3. Something else that helped, we put a larger windsock [? - the spongy foam ball] on her mic.

Your ability to communicate with other riders in dependent on your bluetooth head set. The only thing the Free Wire does in transmit what ever is coming out of your Boom Box to your headset via bluetooth. So the answer is yes, if you have the Free Wire plugged into your bike, and your headset is paired with your wife's bluetooth headset you can communicate with her, no problem. the Free Wire has nothing to do with your ability to pair with other riders.

If I install the Harley DIN cable, does the dealer need to flash to activate it?

No, you don’t need to flash the bike if you add the DIN cable. If you go to the Law Abiding Biker web site, (or their you tube channel) there is an installation video on adding the DIN to an SGS. Also videos on the FreeWire and WHIM. Tons of excellent information.

Thanks, I've watched his videos and didn't pick up on the question of the flash. His stuff is hard to watch.
