Old age has caught up to me. With hip and knee replacements I had to sell my CVO limited as it got to be a little too much for me. That leaves me with a 2018 Fat Boy, which I don't like the way it handles on the country roads. I can get a low mileage 2015 Ultra Limited Low at a good price. Any downsides to this bike as I have seen a few pretty differing reviews. I guess my size matters. I'm 5'11" and 210 pounds. Thanks for any insight you can give me.

 

There isn’t gonna be a lot of difference between your CVO and the low. Almost the same weight just shorter suspension (1in) so it may ride a little rougher in comparison. If you had trouble with the CVO size/weight you may not be much better with the low other than the C.O.G. Would be slightly lower.
no disrespect sir, but it may be trike time if you want all of the benefits of the BIG bikes.

 

getting an inch lower with the Low will help a bit.
It would help more to get a lighter bike.

Road King with 944’s and a C&C Seat.

Shocks drop the bike to the same ride height as a low and my seat is just as low if not a little lower.

Road King is lighter without the fairing and easy to move around.

Might want to consider a RK if you can live without the fixed fairing.

 

I'm 78 yo and have shrunk from 5'11" to 5'9" in the last 25 years. My 2013 Limited has one inch lowering blocks on the rear shocks that help some
but there's just no getting away from so much weight up high. I have also considered a RK as they are somewhat lighter but no where near as
easy to ride and maneuver as Softails are. So, for me, my next one will be a Heritage with a detachable tour pack - they're 175 lbs lighter and
more of the weight like the rear suspension is down low.

Another option is (people gonna hate me for it but...) a honda goldwing. The centre of gravity is lower and although they are just as heavy if not more, they are much easier to handle and you gotta love the reverse gear. Super reliable just like a well maintained Harley. A surprisingly nice ride and prior to 2018 were built in the USA. Also on a longer ride significantly less fatiguing, part from the handling and part from much less noise.

I have an ultra classic and a 05 wing. I like both but I don't want to be without a Harley because it has a higher fun factor.

 

My wife had 15 Limited Low it wasn't comfortable for me but she needed it that way. Compare to my 15 Limited man handling was very easy even though no difference in weight but lower suspension and lower seat made hell of difference to control it.I installed 944s on it which are little more comfortable then short shocks but don't raise the seat height. I would rather go that route when time comes instead of going to a naked bike.

FWIW- One of my plans is to get a Heritage Softtail when I can’t muscle my ‘16 FLHTK around.

And my Limited has 2” lower rear shocks with a low Street Glide seat. It made a BIG difference in being able to move the bike around.
