Helmet ?
#2
I always wore a half helmet and recently went to ¾ Shoei.
I can tell you I can not hear the radio as well, but I don’t know if it is the ears being covered (in the winter I used zip-on ear flaps with the ½ and didn't have as much problem) or it is the wind noise.
The wind noise is very pronounced, and I even notice a distinct difference in the motor sounds I hear.
I wanted to stick with a half helmet, but they discontinued the helmet I used to wear and this is the only one that I found that was comfortable on me.
Just a trade off I guess.

Try some triple flange ear plugs. Lubricate them with a little chap stick and insert them about half way, then adjust in or out to find the sweet spot.
You will lose the annoying wind noise and hear the music and traffic a lot better. You will also find your long day on the road a lot less fatiguing.
Or just use ear buds.

I have a Shoei RFR and Biltwell Lane Splitter, with the visor down I can hear the radio better because the wind isn't smashing into my ears.
