I rotate between my Biltwell Gringo fullface, Bell Custom 500 3/4, and 70's (now basically a novelty) 3/4 helmet. When I have a bubble shield with either 3/4, I don't notice any real difference than with out one. My Gringo, on the other hand, I do. Without the bubble shield I hear my radio fine, but when I have one on its a little quitter.

To better help you out, which 3/4 are you looking to buy? If I could go back to when I bought my Bell, I would have honestly bought a Daytona DOT or Biltwell Hustler/Bonanza. The Bell weighs a little more than my Gringo and son's full face (HJC).

From your screen name, I'm guessing your helmets are extra small?

Actually my Bell is the only XS. Gringo is a MED and 70's is Small. Fitted ball cap is 6 7/8.

The Shark Evo One 2 is the best of both worlds. It is a modular helmet that goes from 3/4 to full very easily, even while riding. The great thing about it is that the chin guard goes all the way back and slides in slightly to the back of the helmet. You can hardly tell it is a modular helmet when it is in 3/4 mode. it even comes with a pin lock shield which completely prevents fogging. It also has a build in sun shield. It is truly one of the best looking helmets out there, modular or not. Check out this link.

I wear a 3/4 bell helmet and do not have a problem hearing the radio. Of course I plug in my headset and listen to the radio with that.

Full face Arai, with J&M headset, clear easy listening they work very well. I have been using J&M products since the 1980's with no issues, I will continue to use them they stand behind their products with great customer service also..

When I rode sport bikes (years ago) I always wore full face. Since riding Harleys, also years ago, I went to half helmets. Gave up riding 2 years ago because of back problems.
Had back surgery (not fun) in Jan. Doc gave me green light to ride again. Now since I'm older and wiser, I have a Bell Carbon 500 3/4 and a bell Star Carbon Full Face. Radio sounds fine.
I'm more concerned about safety than music. AT 65, I don't worry about the "cool" factor anymore.

How do people come across these threads that have been dead for months or years?

On topic: Earplugs work the best with or without a helmet.
