I just swing my right leg over without a passenger like I have since I started riding. I have a 30" inseam.

You're tons older than I am so that could be a issue. I won't be 68 until August!

at 72 things seem higher. sometimes I'll come to right side throw leg boot up and leg comes down on seat. Then it's just slide into home.
kroozeabout. ps all of the above works.

Like others have said, mount from right side. Much easier with backrest, luggage in passenger seat, solo tour pack, etc. Works on my sport bike as well when I have luggage on the pillion.

I took mine off. PIA. GF hated it. Rode to Alaska, never missed it. Not even sure where it is. Sometime wonder if it made it worse.

Default Mount and Dismount

I have severe back problems and researched alternative how to mount my FLHTCU. This is just general idea, you should adjust to your needs. Hope this helps.

Mount from right.
1. Turn handlebar far left.
2. Grab the grips.
3. Right foot on floorboard.
4. Lean to left while pushing up with right leg.

NOTE: Make sure you are leaning left and slighty forward while performing step 5.

5. Swing your left leg over backrest, when your almost standing -up.
6. Rest left foot on left forboard.
7. Done... continue from there to start your bike.

Thanks guys. Will try the right side mount. I've seen the motorman video showing the cops use it to stay out of oncoming traffic.

I'm not quite as old as you but I'm not as flexible as I use to. My solo seat has a backrest and I just lean forward a little and, as someone said, concentrate on getting the knee over. I saw myself doing this on the gas station windows and I looked like a dog pissing on a hydrant. I try not to lean anymore.

I do an Axe kick right over the seat and drop my leg down the other side and then side into place. I took karate as a child so I have these skills. Thanks Dad.

I’m only 50 but I’m going to start working on staying flexible now so I’ll be good when I get into 60’s 70’s and maybe 80’s.
