Default Progressive Suspension 444 or 490 or 944 for touring

I’m running the Progressive Monotube cartridge kit lowered 1” with a 21” front x 18” rear setup.

I ride two up 50/50 and am looking to replace the rear stock stocks. Tried air ride and wasn’t happy with it so Im interested to hear from anyone running Progressive Suspension models 444 or 490 or 944.

Im leaning towards the 13.5” 444’s because I ride two up regularly.

The 490’s are the same cost as the 444’s but I feel maybe to stiff for two up comfort, and can only get them in 13”.

944’ cost a few bills more and are for touring models but it drops the rear 1” but still gives you 13” but sits at 12” I like the higher back end offered in the 444.

Im looking for any feed back from users of these products.

Bike is a 2003 Ultra Classic with removable tour pack

Default Shocks

I have two bikes with the 444's heavy duty 13.5", 08 RK , which is same frame as the 03, and a 2012 Limited. Together we are around 450-500 when loaded and also pull a trailer . Have no complaints whatsoever , live in Pennsylvania and never bottom out with next to highest adjustment. Both bikes handle well and have been all over the US on both. I'm not saying there isn't better but for the money and the riding we do I would recommend them.

In that price range I'd also check out bitubo from DK custom. Specs for 13" shock show pretty long travel and may not need to go longer, though not sure how that compares to progressive.

I'm happy with Ohlins from motorcycle metal but they cost a bit more.

i would also like to run OHLINS but it’s a matter of $$$ so either I stay stock till I can affords the OHLINS or I rock the progressive because they’ll be better then stock and affordable at the moment.

Depends on the Ohlins you get from Motorcycle Metal. I would call Howard first. You might be surprised how much Ohlins run with the HD Forums discount. Received a set of 2-2b's for less than some progressives.

I run the Progressive 444s on a 2018 Street Glide and I am very happy with them. I am certain the some Ohlins configured by Howard from Motorcycle Metal would perform at a higher level, but they also cost considerably more.

Go with the 490's. They have both preload & rebound adjustments.
