Where is the oil sending unit. I can't find it on a parts teardown list.

I do get a loud knock from the engine when it shows the pressure drop out and the light comes on. This unit is a read only correct?

I’d change your cracked hose you pictured in your other thread as well, it is probably allowing air to be sucked in and could be causing some of you readings and oil light.

Already pulled. Getting new tomorrow when I get the tensioners. Could that cause that much of a pressure loss to not pump oil through the system.
I'm new to how the oil cooling system works. I can work on anything but never dealt with an oil cooling system.

I just found an article about the pressure relief valve in the cam plate. It stated that if it get stuck open it could cause low pressure. When I went to remove it it took a bit of force and it was in the open position. Once I got it removed I cleaned the bore out and now it moves freely. Would this cause my issues. I only found one article about this.

It's definitely suspect. That's what I meant when I mentioned bypass also. Baisley has a spring and a precision ground plunger and Axtell has their version. Something to consider. On the Zippers link there is a very good pic of the cam plate oil system schematic also.

Thanks, everyone for your input. It does appear it was the relief valve. I replaced it and it seems to be running normal again. I took it out for about 10 miles and it was running at 130 deg. And the pressure was around 10 at idle. I do want to test the pressure at the sensor port as I've seen alot of folks dont trust the harley gauge.

I was going to try and be a nice person. But if your oil light came on and you drove it home, you are a fool.

Also I kinda doubt being down just a quart caused the light to come on.

He said the light came on at idle, I doubt he drove it home that way. (g)
