Default ‘07 Road King Gear position and fuel gauge

I would really like to replace the stock speedometer on my 2007 Road King Classic with Harley’s combination speedometer/tach, part 70900072A. One of the reasons I’m interested in the replacement is the new gauge also includes a gear position indicator and digital gas gauge.

Harley’s 2015 catalog states that gear position indicator and the digital gas gauge are not available on ‘04 to ‘07 Road King models. Does anyone know if this these additional functions are still not available on the ‘07 Road King or if there are wiring alternatives to correct bypass the issue.

Greatly appreciate any insight.

Running that pn# indicates it fits an 07 road king unless it’s an 07 FLHRSE

Thanks Dawg,

Yes it fits but the gear position and the fuel gauge indicator included with the unit apparently will not work with the ‘07 Road King?

I have an 07 and remember gear position was never an option. Only the 6th gear light.

I too have an 07. 6th gear light only. It's one of the reasons why I run a Powervision. In Guage mode I have a gear indicator for one of the gauges. That and a tach makes my day.

When I rode 5-speeds, I could always tell what gear I was in by the way the bike "felt". With my 6-speed, I always forget & can't tell from the feel what gear I'm in. Wish they made an indicator for my '07; already have a tach; just need the gear indicator.

Being that there is no 6th gear switch to turn on that light, it is CALCULATED in the ECU based on engine rpm and transmission output shaft rpm, I suspect that the gear indicator is also a calculated value again based on engine rpm and transmission output shaft rpm. If the ECU was not programed for EACH of those ratios to trigger a given gear number display, a new gauge will have NO INFORMATION from which to show the gear number.
