Default GPS Map Update.

Has anyone done the $149 GPS map update? If so, have you noted discernible differences? I ride a 2017 SGS and only ride along the east side of the country.

Thank you.

At what point do you have to start paying? I updated mine (2019) yesterday and there was no charge.

Your 2017 has a map that was finalized in early 2016. The only update they are showing would be an upgrade to second quarter 2017 (MY2018). That's all they offered when I went to the side a couple weeks ago. It's still shitty system for any bike that retails north of 10K. I don't the a one year newer map is going do much for you. I'm seriously considering putting my Garmin back on my handlebar. Especially, considering the HD GPS could NOT get me to the HD Museum from 20 miles outside of Milwaukee.

Are you sure you updated the map and not the Boom! Infotainment software? OP, the general consensus has been don't waste your money. The "updated" maps are already outdated when they're made available.

Yessir, I updated the Boom software first, then did the maps.

Pretty sure you didn’t. They’ve always charged for the map updates. Unless they changed it for the Boom GTS.

I'm in the minority but I update my maps every 2 years. The roads and POI's are worth it to me. It's not the most rational decision but for what I spent on my cycle and add/ons, I can justify $75/year. There are alternatives (dedicated GPs or smartphone) and I will use them as an emergency backup but I like the Boom screen and customizability.
