Default charging system

My 05 E-Glide battery light comes on when the fog lights are on and the bike is idleing. The volt guage drops to 12 volts but goes right up to 14 volts when the rpm reaches 1500rpm. Bike idles at 900 to 1000 rpm. Any suggestions.

I'm talking idleing while at a traffic light, battery light should not go on.

Well yes it will if your charging system is maxed out or over loaded.

You might be at the limits of the charging system - or could be dirty terminals or a battery comin' up on the end of its' useful life. What kinda electrical accessories are ya runnin'?

Just the radio on and fog lights, shouldn't be that close to max load?

What's more important is how many Amps the fog lights draw. Clean your battery terminals as mentioned and charge the battery up real good. Not sure about your riding habits, but if you make a lot of short runs, over time that can lead to a weakened battery. HTh

Yer right on the amp draw of the lights - ah wuz assumin' they wuz OEM - but likely not! What's the wattage rating of those lamps? Are ya runnin' stock headlights?

Running stock HD lights, I'll have to barrow an amp meter to see how much of a draw there is.

Nah - most ammeters ain't gonna register anyways. What is the wattage ratin' of the fog lights?

Bottom line - the system is tellin' ya thar ain't 'nuff power from the stator at idle. Usually that means either yer idle is too low (what's factory idle rpm recommended?) or that there is too much draw on the system.
