Default 97 Electra glide classic

I have the king tour pack and the bracket supporting the trunk snapped. Any ideas where to get a new bracket? I have added lights in the rear and am not sure if a quick release will fit. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

The part number you need is 53425-97A. The bracket changed in 1998. I’m sure a bracket from a 98-08 tourer would work, you just might have to make some new holes in the tour pak possibly, or maybe not. The pic below on top is your bracket, the pic on the bottom is the one used on the 98-08 tourers. Not sure what that piece going across the center serves, perhaps you can tell from yours. I’m sure some that have made theirs detachable have the 98 part laying around.

I think the bracket that goes across on the 97 is for the license plate. The one for the 98 and up seems to have different mounting for the trunk which isn't a problem. The only thing immerses about is if I'm going to have the same problem with where the original bracket broke

Are you overloading the pak? I moved my pak further to the rear and have always put more in it than the “HD suggested weight limit” and mine has held up since Aug of 07 without snapping.

The middle piece I’m referring to is circled in your pic

Another option, weld some steel rod inside the pieces for strength, have it welded back together at the breaks, grind the weld smooth and powdercoat the piece

That I'm not sure about. I don't think it would make a difference because I have nothing that attaches to it.

The heaviest thing carried in the trunk would be a helmet. I don't put a lot into it.

Here is a aftermarket system for viewing and the Harley is the same system, I have the Harley system on a 97 RK and 05 TG. 97 - 08 touring is listed as being the same system

Thanks for that. If I do the quick disconnect I'm pretty sure I will have to remove the upper lights next to the license plate.
