i bought my bike to ride not park in front of the VFW or Legion on sunday in our dry county. You don't have to ride with the pack on a poker run to enjoy. the runs here in alabama average 60 miles or more due to the great secinc roads here.

I agree with O'DOULSif I amgoing to be at one spot for a while Iwill mix in a Miller Lite now and then, I love to ride and and I love to drink but do not see the need to mix them.

I used to love poker runs but too many near misses for me.
Get a handfull of A-holes out of the crowd, add booze and put them on a bike?
I won't get messed up and ride but some will.
There is a dead guy to prove it from a run a few weeks ago in our area.
I'll stick to a nice ride with a few friends and get drunk at home.

I don't agree with drinking and driving anything. Worked in an ER for 6-7 years and have seen the outcomes there and with a few friends and family members. Very simple things like balance and depth perception go to sh__ in a hurry with just one or two. Guess that's why when I got my private pilot license a several years ago and got invited to a local FBO's hanger party, I left really early because of all the guys flying in and going straight to the kegs knowing that they'll be flying back home shortly. Just can't understand why people have to take hobby and mix in the alcohol. Save the drinks until after the ride. You and maybe someone else will live longer and happier lives. Just ask my friend that killed someone in a DUI accident(he'd only had three), or my 30 year old brother who is a below the knee amputee from riding in a truck with someone that was drunk, or maybe my aunt and uncle whose son was hit head on and killed by a drunk at 16. Sorry for getting on the soap box, but this issue just kills me.

Never been on a poker run that stops at bars, but I agree with the consensus, I would ride in the back and let the others do what they will.

I personally won't drink and ride . . . I had a beer one time and got on my bike soon after and I didn't like not feeling 100% in control. I guess I shoulda waited, but I'm 6'2" and 200lbs, I can handle one beer, but it is amazing how much that little can affect your reflexes and your hand eye coordination, not to mention your ability to concentrate on what the cages are doing around you . . .
