Default Is this supposed to be like this?


so I was changing my shift linkage today and noticed my exhaust pipe sits right on the primary.. is it supposed to sit like that? 08 SG

yeah.. that’s what I was assuming.. I’ll have to pull the head pipe and slip on and redo it..

That was a common thing back when the rear exhaust exited that route. Will probably leave a nice mark on the primary.
Usually all it took was loosening everything, positioning it correctly, and re-tighten.

I have lots of room between my pipe and primary on my 2008, I popped my rear swing arm shaft out between the two yesterday with lots of room

If the model has it, there is an “L” shaped support clip under the chrome heat shield for the rear cylinder header pipe. Might be worth looking at. Mine (02 EGS) snapped at the factory bend where the clip bolts to a frame tab in front of the starter. PITA.

Mine did that, I think going over all the potholes in Ohio, loosened everything and kept falling down. Adjust it and keep an eye on it. Primary will have a spot on it,, but really can't tell.

Is it really the heat shield that is touching, and not the pipe? Heat shields can be loosened and adjusted.

Like other have said, just loosen it all up, get where it needs to be and tighten down.
