If your on the fence about getting a GPS like I was, I gotta tell ya these things are great. I know alot of you have been using them for years and know alotmore about them than I do. But I figure there are a lot of holdouts like I was. I use to plan elaborate back road trips with Delorme Street Atlas software and travel by turn sheets and paper maps. Every trip included several "Where The F##k am I" situations. Most of the time I never minded, It was all part of the adventure. But many a time I'd be sweatin a fuel crisis or I'd be in weather that made stopping and getting out the map a pain. I haven't changed the way I travel, I still plan a four day ride to cover a two day distance. It's just more fun to enjoy the ride and have the plan work flawlessly. Now I can get as lost as I want, when I want and get right back on track if I want or need to.

I was out in Iowa last weekend and took my ZUMO 550 with me. I was seeingsome really strange things. I would be following the directions andtaking the exits it said and all of a sudden I'd get the "recalculating" prompt. And I waswhere I was supposed to be. And another timeit showedmebeing on astate route(SR28) when Iwas actually on another road. This happened quite a bit and was pretty annoying. Never had a problem in 10 years with Garmin aviationGPS units.

Anybody elsehave this problem?

I haven't had those problems with the Zumo, in fact except for my own mistakes in planning a route in Mapsource mine has worked perfectly.

PeteMac, can say I've seen some funny things in over 12000 miles on my Zumo. Sometimes it will tell you to get off and back on a ramp, for some reason. I'm not blaming the Zumo as much as the data it gets from the map company.

I'm in the middle of a 2400 mile trip and it's been flawless and I've been working the back roads hard thru small towns.

Yeah, exactly. One time we were on I-80 and it was telling us to get off the next exit when that made no sense since we wouldn't be exiting for a while. Maybe I should check out the Zumo board and seeif this is a known problem. The wierd partis it wasn't happening here in MA, just when wewere inIowa. I'm sure it's just coincidence.

especially great when you decide to take a trip off the scheduled route. I can always get you back home. i pre-build the legs of my long trips, then activate them as the trip progresses. always leaves room for changes or unknown situations (traffic, construction, closed roads), yet you can always find your way back to the original routs. also, it on the spur of the moment you want to find/navigate to some location that you didn't initially plan on going to, it can get you there without voiding Mans unwritten rule "Never Ask for Directions".
