Play in rear wheel

So?!
Let's make a fresh start. What model and year of bike do you have? What are you doing to measure this 1 1/2"? If you have the bike in gear and are turning the rear wheel all you are measuring is slack in the primary and transmission gears, between the tyre and crankshaft. Sounds about right to me.

I just fired up my Ouija Board and conversed with Sir Isaac Newton. He confirmed my thought that if the rear wheel in fact moves 1.5", something is indeed happening. He went on to suggest that the motorcycle be rotated 180 degrees to the right and try again, unless you're in Australia, you should then rotate it to the left.
