Default Cruise Control quit briefly

I was riding my 2002 RKC the other day and I turned the Cruise on. Nothing happened. I tried switching the cruise to on, off, on, off, on. The cruise would not work. I found a place to pull over. I killed the bike with the main switch and started back up. I got back on the road and the cruise worked. Anybody know anything about this?

Make sure your front brake lever is fully returning, if the master cylinder piston is sticky it will prevent it from fully returning. The cruise shut off switch in the front brake housing only takes a tiny bit of lever movement to kill the cruise. Has happened to my bike twice. Rebuilding and cleaning out the master cylinder fixed it. If it turns out to be the control module you may be out of luck as they are long since discontinued.

My money is on the rear brake switch, They are cheap both in build and price. I've replaced two on my Road King and one on my Limited for the exact reason you mention in your post. When they fail, they fail on and your brake light is on all the time which tells your cruise to disengage. Either way, you probably have one of the brake light switches sticking, Next time the cruise wont work, pull over and don't shut off the bike, Check your brake light, I bet it's on. Then you will need to troubleshoot which one,.

I believe that you nailed it and I wonder why I didn't think of that.
I am having a minor problem with the front brake lever returning all the way back to home. It is on my bucket list to fix. After I used the front brake, it takes a moment to return all the way.

I had the clutch switch take a dump on me. See if you can start in gear with the clutch lever pulled in. If it won’t crank with the lever then that is the problem. Good luck
