2016 RGU 16" handle bar advise
On a whim I picked up a set of 16" Carlini Menace Apes off the clearance table at my local HD shop. They were new and marked down to $100.
From my research after the fact, I see that these have a 1" mount section so I will have to buy the 1" riser/mount. It also appears that I will have to extend the wires and hydraulic lines too.
Is this all accurate information for the RGU. Most of the posts I read pertain to the RG or RGS so I don't know if the wires/lines are longer on the Ultra because it comes with taller bars in the first place.
If I need all these items, I am thinking I will be better in the long run to just sell these off and get a set of 14" bars.
Let me know if I am off base here.
Thanks,
Marc

You could maybe find a used handlebar clamp on ebay... I did.
I have 14s and was able to use the hydraulic lines by rerouting them away from their factory location at the neck - but it barely worked and at some point I'm going to replace them for a longer set.
I definitely needed the control wire extensions. Got 8 or 10 inches, I forget.
Good luck on your project or whatever you end up doing.

There is a pin that sticks up from the handlebar clamp into the handlebar. It is on one side for a RG and on the other for the RGU (how dumb can that be?), Don't let that worry you, just pull the pin out or pound it all the way down. I have the HD Chizeled low handlebars. They don't need any wire extenders, nor do the Chizeled high (12" I think), but you do have to take off a organizer bracket. For 16" you will probably need wire harness extenders, which Harley sells.
The stock handlebars are absolutely the worst design ever. They force your wrist and elbows and shoulders into very painful bends. by all means change them out before going on any long trips.

I have actually been on several long trips with the stock bars. I find the fairly comfortable after rolling them forward. I just grabbed these bars because I thought they looked good and were cheap. They are turning out to be not so cheap so I am just going to sell them and forgot about it.

Depending on which 14" bars you buy, you will likely need brake/clutch/wire extensions. All of the bar manufacturers seem to measure their products differently so with some brands 12" bars won't require extensions and with other brands you're go to go at 14" Regardless of what size you buy, getting the correct bars for your bike means you won't have to pull out or hammer in any pins.
