Default 5 K Service on an Ultra

Scheduled my 5k service for this weekend and wondering ,is it really worth the $270.00 to have it done..And from what I read in the manual, it's more just inspecting than anything else. I've changed the oil and filter on my other bikes(primarily metric) Can't really be that much to it,can there? Then I can save my fun tickets for other things..Thanks in advance, and as always, any tips are greatly appreciated..Thanks in advance, Ride Free, Steve

changing the oils, adjusting the belt tension, and basically looking for loose stuff. Buy the service manual and do it yourself.ain't a big deal.

MORE OF A GOOD INSPECTION LIKE SAID. GREASED THE NECK BEARINGS CAUSE THAT WAS OVERLOOKED AT 1K AND ADJUSTED CLUTCH BUT DID NOT REALLY NEED ANY ADJUSTING AFTER TAKING DERBY COVER OFF AND LOOSEING JAM NUT..ECT. THE FINAL DRIVE BELT WAS BORDERLINEBUT LEFT IT ALONE. LUBED CABLES WHEN ADDED CRUISE BUT UNLESS YOU RIDE IN THE RAIN ALOT IM SHURE THERE GOOD. PIECE OF CAKE AND SOME QUALITY TIME WITH THE SCOOTER

BESIDES YOUR BASIC TOOL SET(REAL BASIC) ,I WOULD SAY: TORX SOCKET SET WITH T27, TORQUE WRENCHES BUT FOR MOST PART CAN SLIDE BY WITHOUT, IVE NEVER REALLY USED THEM BUT GOT THEM ANYWAY,WHEN I ADJ THE FINAL BELT I WILL TRY TO USE A FLAT WRENCH WITH A PIPE ON THE END FOR LEVERAGE TO AVOID LOOSENING THE MUFFLER OR TAKEING IT OFF.A BELT STYLE OIL FILTER REMOVER TO AVOID DAMAGING THAT SENSOR THINGEY NEAR OIL FILTER. I USED A PLAIN SOCKET AND HELD IT WITH VISE GRIPS TO ADJUST CLUTCH. BELT CHECKER THING BUT I THINK IT WAS A WASTE OF 15 BUCKS(JUST FELT LIKE BUYING SOMETHING)USED A COUPLE INCHES OF TEFLON TAPE ON BOTTOM OF OIL BOLT AND ONLY TIGHTENED IT GOOD AND SNUG SO ASTO TOTALLY AVOID THAT STRIPPING ISSUE. THATS ABOUT ALL i CAN THINK OF FOR NOW

Get the DVD "Fix My Hog" they walk you through it, makes it really easy. Definately not worth $270 to have someone do it.

I do my dealer 5k service at 15,000 mile intervals. I let them change the oil and filter at 5K, and that's all. No problems with that at all.

Just because it is a Harley dont let this scare you.Its very easy to work on.Changing the oil on mine is easier than the Roadstar I use to own.
Buy a service manual, belt tension gage, inch pound and pound torque wrench and Torxs socket set with a #27.
Just be sure to check ALL the fastners.
