Year 2000 FLTR - Worth Getting a Power Commander?
I have a year 2000 FLTR Road Glide with the old Magnetti-Morrelli EFI system and have been advised that it's not worth getting a Dynojet Power Commander as they're notoriously hard to tune. Is this true? They are available for this year and for models with this EFI system. Anybody running one or has experience of running one? Any advice appreciated.

I had a 2000 road king with the magnetti-morrelli efi...its tough to get parts for, and pretty crappy all together.
I just converted mine to a mikuni carb, and even with a stock carb ignition setup it ran way better than it ever did when it was EFI...... costed me a mikuni carb, used a stock ignition from a carb bike, $300 something for harness, intake, and the other misc stuff, and then $100 for a pingel petcock....I did all the work myself in an afternoon...
If I ever had another one id do the exact same thing
Even if you do spend money on it and get it running good that might work for a while...but eventually that MM setup is gonna quit for good then you will be spending even more money to convert it to carb or a different efi setup..

Thanks mate. I've been quoted almost £1000 for the carb conversion and whilst I'm not hostile to the idea, I'd like to see if there's some way the existing set up can be improved. I'm already sold on changing the cam chain set up to a gear driven set up which is gonna cost.

It's a choice between gear driven or upgraded hydraulic tensioners. I don't really like the idea of the chain set up as there are too many parts that can fail, although I've been warned that not all bikes can accept the gear driven replacement due to the run out. If push comes to shove then I'll just have to get the upgraded hydraulic tensioners as I'm nearing the 30,000 mile mark which I'm told is the point at which the stock tensioners can fail.

I have an Evo, Sporty and Buell, all with gear-drive cams, so I support that as a solution! Your bike also has the true-running crank, unlike later bikes, which have a more generous run-out tolerance, so a gear-drive is certainly a simple choice. As for service life, that is unpredictable, so you have done well to get that mileage without problems, if some of the older threads around HDF are anything to go by. I had an '03 FXDXT for several years and sold it before I became aware of the pitfalls of the TC88s!

I had a 2001 EGlide Classic With 90,000miles on it that had a Andrews 26/PowerCommander on it. Ran good for what it was. Got the PC from Fuel Moto. I just ran the base tune Jamie put in . I changed the cam chain shoes. Just keep your eye on that. If your going to keep the bike for a while TMax & S&S have a replacement ECM for those (95 to 2001) MM years The guy who bought my 2001 is still ridding it. Must have at least 125000 by now ?? Or you could go to a carb if that idea suits you better ?
