Some do ,, some don't,,, But,,, (if you have a battery tenderer , not a battery charger), I would connect new battery overnight, to get it up to full charge before first crank/start.....
Also before disconnecting old battery, there is a procedure before pulling maxi fuse, (if you have security system)…..
1. Pull side cover where maxi fuse located.
2. With fob present,,,, Turn ignition ON , (let security system disarm).
3. Turn ignition OFF ..
4. Pull maxi fuse.... (you have approx 4 - 5 seconds before the security system will arm again)…..
5. Remove old and replace with new battery ….
6. Install maxi fuse ,, and start as normal …..

What kind of tender, if any, do you use?
I destroyed my battery in no time with an older tender. The new batteries require the new style tenders.

That battery tender 800 looks just like the HD one. I always hook my bike up after it has cooled down as I never know when I will ride it again.
I didn't ride the bike over last winter and it sat for maybe 2 months. Started up okay once the fuel system got fully primed.

what constitutes an “older” battery tender? Mine is about eight years old. It has worked fine on my last three agm batteries .
just curious.

The new batteries require the new style tenders.

I have a C-Tek battery tender charger that has a specific setting for AGM batteries. C-Tek mention that AGM requires a slightly higher charging voltage in cold weather.
I haven't used that setting for my car and it seems to work just fine. I don't know if the HD / Battery Tender 800 is specifically set for AGM or not.
