Lately the cruise control on my '02 Ultra kicks out when I'm ridin down the road. The road is flat, straight and my speed is normal when I engage the cruise control. It'll stay locked in from a few seconds to a few minutes then it just kicks out. Besides being frustrating as hell it can be dangerous for my dainty little butt so I was wondering if there might be an adjustment or something that I can do to tighten up things so this doesnt continue to happen.

Got any ideas???

 

Check the rear brake pedal. Might be an adjustment problem. Happened on my '07 Ultra.

Throttle cable adjustment comes into play in the way of the switch inline. too tight and it false cancels the setting.

 

Might have a friend ride behind you and try to watch you brake light. The HB lever switch could be chattering sending a signal. I know I ride with my fingers on the the lever. Yours may be touchy.
Change the levers to thechrome ones lately?

 

if I lean forward on the throttle it will kick it out too....

I would suspect a worn out throttle roll on switch.
The switch is located in the throttle cable under right side of fuel tank.
I don't think the switch can be bought separately.
OR
a faulty brake light switch could cause it, if it's making contact when it shouldn't,
I would suspect front over rear though.
Try holding OUT on the front brake handle while riding. If this helps check the switch and the handle.

That happened to me also. It was the throttle cable switch. You will have to replace the assembly to fix it. Mine is an 02 like yours. Went out around 40,000 miles.
