Default What to do with Clutch and brake cables with 12'KST bars

I have a 2010 SG and I am adding 12" KST Mayhem bars. I was told that I would need to extend the wires which I did , but the brake and clutch cables would not need to be changed. Mine are about 2" from reaching. I will spend the next couple of hours searching the forum to figure out what I need to do to make them work , but I thought I would ask while I am looking.

Hopefully someone will chime in and provide some suggestions with details.

Thanks
Rick

You need to replace them. I went with +6 on the clutch and +4 for the brake when I did my 12" Yaffe's, perfect length.

12 in KST's on my 2017 SGS, stock clutch and brake cable with no issues at all.

I disconnected the clutch cable from the lever and removed it from the inner fairing. I rerouted it up through the front of the frame and then up to the bar's. It appears to fit with no obstruction. Then I pulled the Brake cable /line back through the fairing and rerouted it so that it does not run through the fairing. It comes out the front of the tank and then routes straight up to the bars. I am going to turn the bars lock to lock to make sure that nothing binds or pulls. If it looks good , I will tie wrap everything down and call it good.

Basically, I removed both lines from running through the front fairing , gaining some length.

Did you have to bleed the brakes after rerouting the brake line?

I think you'll regret running the cable and line outside the fairing. I tried it with my clutch cable for a minute... Nope. +6 clutch and +4 brake. Who ever told you stock parts would reach 12" bars is either a fool or thought you had a Rushmore bike.

Lines, not cables. OP has a pre-rushmore bike, different rules.
