Start it and ride it gently before hitting it hard. I ride my forged piston bike easy for a little longer than the stock cast piston bike. The only time I warm a bike up sitting is if I'm on a trip and the first thing I'm going to do is get on an interstate ramp.

Put my helmet on, check my lights, put my gloves on, light a smoke and take it easy for the first couple of miles.

My garage is 130* this time of year. I check oil pressure and go.

I start the bike in the driveway and then I watch her put her bandana on, pick the sunglasses and boots she wants to wear that day, apply sunscreen etc... By the time she hops on the bike, the engine is warm.

My garage is AC cooled in summer, heated in winter. When I fire it up. Maybe a minute or two I take off easy. After lunch if my bike is sitting in the sun and warm, then 30 seconds and take it easy.

My M8 once fully warmed up is at 850 idle.
I let it warm until the idle is down to around 950 rpm which is around 3 or 4 minutes. Its plenty warm by then.

The general guidance for Evo riders is ride easy until the cylinders are too hot to touch. I don't pay as close attention to the temperature of my Twin Cam as I did with my Evo, but I will put my hand near the cylinders once in a while to check. Of course my Evo wasn't fuel injected, so the idle was never a good indicator of a warmed engine.

6. Then ride it gently, and not at high rpm, for the next few minutes.

Good to go.
I agree with this^^^...
