I recently purchased a 02 Ultra that had a small amount of clutch drag. Although I've adjusted other Harley clutches, I've also watched the videos here (as well as other ones) on how to adjust the clutch, but it still has clutch drag when warm. In the past I've adjusted clutches when cold, usually 1/2 turn. I checked the primary fluid level, (it was not overfilled) adjusted it when warm, even all the way out to one full turn, no change. No clutch drag at all when cold. Any ideas as to what to try next?
It could depened if the clutch was changed out. I used an Energy one extra clutch plate and HD spring kit this winter. I had a lot of clutch drag. Finaly with some research I found out they recommend only a 1/4 turn out at the clutch itself..worked like a charm
It needs to be adjusted dead cold. Like overnight. The manual for my ‘09 says 1/2 to 1 turn. I go 3/4 and then leave another 1/8” at the lever.
It had sat for 2 days when I adjusted it the first time, didn't help, so that's why I did it the 2nd time when warm.

Thanks, I'll check that out.

The previous owner didn't say anything about changing the clutch, but he did have a lot of other changes done. I'll check that out, thanks.
What's the purpose of the Energy one extra clutch plate and HD spring kit?

Clutch upgrades are done to overcome the clutch slippage that will usually occur with a horsepower increase. In my case it was a cam upgrade that immediately caused clutch slippage. I put a Barnett Kevlar clutch pack and no more clutch slippage. A heavier clutch or additional plate will require a heavier spring.
