Default 'Wanting to change handlebars' question

So, my '03 RG has the stock (I'm assuming) and my wrists are simply too "straight-out-in-front-and-flat" but want to 'turn' the wrist angle slightly outward while also rotating the forearms (right forearm to the right, left to the left).

I saw a set of Harley 'Buck Horn' bars that I'm thinking will get me there but not sure. I don't want to go to the work changing them out and find that it's not it. Am I over-thinking this? The stock rise is fine for me but I want the grips a tad closer and turned a bit 'toward' me. Help!

TIAFAR

PS: If the Buck Horns may work, anyone have one they want to rid themselves of!?

This is constantly trotted out, but I'll do it again...cuz if I don't, someone else will. Handlebar choice is COMPLETELY a personal and subjective thing. There's not a one among us out here that can answer this question for you. And, if it doesn't work, you're back at square one...can't tell ya the number of handlebars I've gone thru for each bike I've owned trying to find the right one for me. No magic answers.

So, yeah, in a way, you're overthinking it, but I don't blame you for trying to minimize the risk. I think you're on the right track trying to find a used set of bars, even if they may have imperfections in them. If you get a used set, and the imperfections aren't acceptable but the bars fit well, it's just a matter of buying a new set that you know will work fine!

I'm with Veek on this one. You really need to try out some bars. Like seats, they are a personal opinion. You local dealer should be able to have you try some options at the dealership. Maybe sit on bikes that have custom bars on them to see what you like.

I get it! I KNOW it's a personal choice but I'm looking for that person that can say "Yes! That's exactly what I did and it was PERFECT". Hehe... Just kidding!

Thanks for your input guys 🙂

You could try the Helibars. They are adjustable in all the areas that are an issue to you.

Check out the Wild 1 website. Great information there.

Wrist angle is very important to comfort and often overlooked. I could not find bars to fit me. I did the close your eyes test and my wrists felt best at 45*. No one made the bars. I bought a set of Khromeworks 2+2 and did a perfect cut and weld to set the wrist angle to 45* ( they were around 23*) I have put 15k on it since and they feel great. I am 6' 195, 33" Inseam. I can explain where to cut them without loosing any strength.

I don't like the 'robotic' look of these bars. I prefer a more traditional appearance of one piece construction that is simply bent into shape. Not a fan of bars that have mechanical connections at the bends...

Go on the www.khromewerks.com site. They have illustrations of their bars with numerous dimensions and angles. Not perfect, but it gives you a good idea to start.
