I also should mention that I use these tool bags. They sit in the bottom of the bag and take up the unused space on either side of the support channel.

I know... LOL I have a full socket set, ratchets, open end wrenches, full set of torx and allen bits, multi tools, flashlights, fuses..... etc. and the fact they sit in those unused spot in the bags is nice. I got a set for each bike and filled them at harbor freight for little money.

Go to your bank and get one of their bank bags, the smaller ones with the zipper.
Walk around your bike and find all the fasteners you know you need to be able to remove.
1. Screwdriver to remove Seat (to get to battery terminals) HD sells a black handled one that has a bunch of TORX and a Phillips and flat blade that work perfectly. This tool has all that you need to adjust the handle bar switch modules and clutch and brake perches. Also removes derby cover (but yu need to break them loos first with a wrench then re-tighten with screwdriver handle.
2. Socket to tighten battery terminals. 10MM I think, with 1/4 in drive handle, Toss in the 7/16, 1/2, 3/8 as well. Deepwell (Mirrors).
3 Oil drain plugs (3 each) I use a 1/4 long handled Allen wrench ball end.
4. to remove Tranny fill plug. Big ****** Allen Wrench.
5. to remove Air Cleaner Cover, Not Quite So Big ****** Allen Wrench.
6. Windshield, whatever your bike takes.
7. Hose Clamps of the size needed for your oil cooler. Pocket knife to square off the end of the hose (ask me how I know this).
8. Small Vice Grip, 6 or 8 inch. For just about anything especially to grip screwdriver handle because you didn't loosen the derby cover screws first like I said. Also works great for your girlfriends' Dyna Jiffy stand she cant reach.
9. Roll of black tape, tire air guage, short air hose (just try use use one of those gas station 25 cent things to put air in your back tire.)
10 If you must, get a set of those wratcheting open end/box end wrenches from 3/8th up to 5/8th.
On a new bike I don't se the need to carry a spark plug wrench or axle wrenches. Call a tow.
I did wish I could have adjusted a guys clutch once, didn't have the tool to remove the derby cover. But now adays they are hydraulic.
Preventative Maintenance, remove the bolt through the rear shifter lever (between tranny and inner primary) and slide the lever off the shaft. goober up the shaft with a thin coat of red or black loctight, then slide the lever back on and install the bolt with blue loctight.

of all the bikes I've owned since I started riding in 1970 - Kawasaki, Suzuki, Triumph, Honda, BMW & Harley, I've never once opened a tool kit for a roadside repair. I've carried multi tools, wrench, multi screwdriver, zip ties, duct tape, small ratchet & socket set, even a flat tire kit, and never once used any of it. And nothing has ever vibrated off my bike or came undone.
So now I don't bother with it. I do carry a folding knife but it mostly gets used to cut my steak. But if I was to carry a tool kit I'd carry applicable dual purpose multi tools, zip ties, tape, and a headgear flashlight.
