A real good friend of mine owns a Harley shop and we discussed the thermostat and the Bosch intercooler pump at great length. I actually got the drawings for the Ford Lightening pump and by those drawings looked like it would work, however when I received one of the pumps it was NOTHING like the drawings. The Bosch part number we tried was 0392022002.

I have the Ford Lightning pump and another Bosch Pump. Ordered from Amazon.
Bosch 392020073 Electric Water Pump Bosch 392020073 Electric Water Pump
, and
Bosch 0392022002 Electric Water Pump Bosch 0392022002 Electric Water Pump
. Similar pumps but the OEM pump has 1/2 inlet and outlet. The two pumps above are 5/8 inlet and outlet. I could make either of them work but since my pump isn't bad I am sending these back. I have a bad thermostat. Im still considering just bypassing the thermostat instead of replacing it.

Since the 2018 bikes don't have a thermostat from the factory and just cycle on and off controlled by the ecm I don't see why we can't do away with the thermostat . If we had to regulate the water temps, why not use a temprature switch to control the grounding circut for the fans and the water pump? It looks to me like a mini relay and a temp switch would be about all the circutry that would be required.

I may order one and see if I can make it work rather than pay $460 for a harley pump thats made by someone else.
Make sure the Bosch pump has sufficient flow and pressure. Don't know what the bike requires, but normal production cars run 16-18 psi, high performance cars run 22-24 psi.

I found the my problem is the thermostat. I have found an even better solution for the whole cooling system. I'm taking it all off this winter and replacing it with a jagg 10 row oil cooler and a better tune. Kevin at Pro Performance V-Twin has done several of these with zero issues. He has cut open one of the wet heads and found the passages don't flow a high volume of water anyway. So far so good on the ones he has done. No ill affects whatsoever.
