Default Ever clean your oil cooler...

Noticed with hotter temps in SE Michigan my oil temp gauge climbing up to the 220 degree mark going down the road at highway speed, and climbing over 240 in traffic. This has never happened before, so I did a little looking and found my oil cooler plugged with road debris. A light spraying at the coin-op car wash and no more problems. Riding in 93 degree heat today, oil never got over 190... Just some food for thought.

That's good to know, I'll have to start cleaning mine out with the hose when I do my washing.

This is good info. I clean mine out everytime I wash the bike with a graden hose. I never power wash my bike. I have heard many horror stories about dealers powerwashing bikes and screwing up the radio and other electronics.[:'(]

the cooler is where everything get thrown on it. you have to clean it weekly at least. soft bristle brush works between wash jobs and on the road. You can also add a mud flap to the front fender to help keep chit off it.

I use the HD premium cooler and the bike runs in the 190 to 210 range all day long in 90 deg heat.

I'm running the HD premium cooler. Been in the 90's here several days and since cleaning I'm consistently running 180-190 degrees. I use a mixture of 75% HD 20W-50 oil and 25% Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer. The bike runs cooler and I get less noise from the gear drive.
